Director Approved training curriculum
Trainer: Sheldon Thomas, qualified training provider meeting requirements of Guidelines 4.2 and 4.3 of O. Reg. 128/04
Course duration: full day
The course will focus on:
Two Major themes dominate this seminar .. safety at all stages of
water main repair, and the correct use of tools, equipment and
fittings to assemble reliable and Lasting pipe repairs.
It is impressed upon trainees that each of the common pipe
materials might require unique approaches to repair, and the knowledge of the pipe material and recommended repair fittings is essentialto a sound repair plan.
By focusing on both small and medium diameter pipe, trainees will receive instruction on preferred water pipe repair procedures.
Trainees will come to understand why and how water mains fail, and why the current failure rate is so high with some materials.
Included also are discussions related to pipe wall metallurgy, installation in aggressive soil conditions, the high value of corrosion prevention at repair sites, and repair site disinfection.
Proper repair site restoration is also discussed in some detail, along with the hydraulic and water quality ramifications of shoddy restoration.
This seminar draws upon many water utility ‘Best Practices’ for water main repair, with liberal use of the InfraGuide document ‘Speed and Quality of Linear System Repair’.
