Training Modules
The Distribution System / Maintaining Safe Water to the Last Tap
Director Approved training curriculum
Trainer: Sheldon Thomas, qualified training provider meeting requirements of Guidelines 4.2 and 4.3 of O. Reg. 128/04
Course duration: full day
The course was designed to follow the preparation and preservation of drinking water from the source right to the last customer on the water system.
Training elements include source water characteristics, treatment targets and options, and operational practices aimed at maintaining water quality throughout the supply infrastructure.
The training material focuses on new and emerging pathogens, and how these new threats are changing the way we operate both in the plants and among the pipes.
There is special attention to ‘biofilms’, as the course introduces new and disturbing information about what many may consider to be simple, not-so-hazardous, slime. You will be surprised, and a bit disturbed.
The course draws from the recent ( 2006 ) recommendations of the National Academies Water Science and Technology Board on how drinking water systems should be managed and maintained.
The course supplies trainees with the ‘tools’ to maintain physical system integrity, from tanks to pipes, and to anticipate and correct water quality issues that might emerge.
Target group: Water distribution management and field staff, water treatment personnel, customer service representatives, contractors, consultants, water system design personnel, city council members
The power point presentation is supported by 13 brief related videos
