Course duration: full day
This is a broad-coverage course. The delivery of drinking water is studied from raw water source, through treatment, to the last tap in the distribution system.
Primary focus is on the threats to water quality within the piping and storage facilities of the distribution system.
The course provides many ways to safeguard water quality once treated water has left the plant.
Some of the many topics covered are:
- Overview of planetary drinking water supply challenges
- New and emerging pathogens / new treatment solutions
- Disinfection byproducts / methods to minimize
- Disinfectant residual decay
- Biofilm development and countermeasures
- Solving water detention time
- New imperatives in water system operations
- Best practices to safeguard water quality in storage and in pipes
- Selection of supportive videos
Pre-requisites: Trainees should be engaged in water distribution system operation or water treatment
Target group: Water distribution management and field staff, contractors, consultants, water system design personnel, water treatment personnel; city council members encouraged
Method of instruction: Power point presentation strong on images of microscopic waterborne contaminants and water system conditions / discussion / effective training handout
Written multiple-choice test upon conclusion of training, pass 70%
